- Learn Rhetorical Devices. Even if you cannot remember the specific name of a rhetorical device know its purpose and be able to recognize it. (i.e. the dense, despicable declaration...this in an alliteration and it is used to emphasize)
- Expand your knowledge base. Knowing basic ideas on many different topics will help you pull information needed for the open-response essay.
- Write the hardest essay first. Get the hardest essay completed first will allow you enough time to complete the easiest essay with less stress.
- Be able to analyze sources and find themes. This will come in handy with the essays.
- Read and re-read prompts. This could make the difference between a score of 4 or 8 on an essay.
- Get a good amount of sleep. You want to have energy for the test.
- Have a good breakfast. Do not skip breakfast or have sugary cereal. You will want to be focused and alert throughout the entire test.
- Perhaps walk around school for ten minutes to wake you up and get your blood flowing.
- Relax, you have prepared all year for this test for an entire year.
